In case you missed it –
Halle sent out your SUG Invite for the Social on September 14. Please join us to celebrate one another and our chosen sport!
Planning for the annual Ron Strank Charity Members Only Fun Tournament is underway but the format has not yet been finalized. We will organize the tournament by ratings groups but we are still working on the details of play. Sign up will be by SUG Invite and I will give you a “heads up” so you aren’t caught off guard when the SUG goes out. Watch this space….
Some things are worth repeating –
Now, to repeat, this year we are inaugurating three new trophies – big, beautiful ones – for our three Track It Hub Ladders: 3.0. 3.5 and 4.0.
This year’s highest scoring male and female player in each of our three Track It Hub ladders will be presented with a trophy at our Social on September 14 and will have their name emblazoned in golden glory on the trophy.
We want to thank Pat Wells and Barry Siwak for leading the charge on the Track It Hub ladders and for pushing so hard to inaugurate these trophies – a sure sign that our club has come of age!
We will present these trophies to the respective winners at our September 14 Social. Therefore, we have adjusted the eligibility criteria. The cutoff date is now Friday Sept. 13 and players must have played in a minimum of 7 plays in order to be eligible.
You might therefore want to check your status and see if you qualify. I think some of you are close, very close. Check it out because we don’t want you to miss out!
Lost and Found –
Please check the Lost and Found bin – Halle has it in the Large Shed. Items not claimed will be cleared out on August 30 and donated to charity.
Indoor Play at Riverbend School on Tuesdays from 7:30-10:00 –
We believe we will be ready to take registrations for indoor play at Riverbend School on August 29. Like last year, these will not be drop in events. Rather, you will be asked to sign up for and pay for in advance a set number of play dates. This opportunity will be offered to our largest ratings group, the 3.0s.
All is not lost if you are not 3.0. In mid-September, we may be able to pick up additional sites and, depending on the sites, we will offer those to other rating groups.
And then, there is B-Active –
Last year, many EPC members lobbied us to find indoor playing opportunities and so we worked with Inapicklepals ( aka Leslie Srogen and Sean McCartan ) to develop an indoor alternative, firstly, for our members and later, for the entire regional pickleball community.
Well, their program at B-Active took off like gangbusters and we were very grateful because they did what we, as a club, couldn’t deliver on our own.
We don’t have details of their plan for this year yet, but we are certainly hoping they will do it again this indoor season. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
And lastly for today –
Our club has grown to 700+ members now and our growth shows no sign of slowing.
And so, it is no secret that we need more court space when the outdoor courts open next spring. We are already initiatingan agreement with Jasper Park Community League to secure use of their courts again next outdoor season. Thanks to Peter Biro, John Crichton and Ran Newby for hosting that site!We are also having very good substantive meetings with the City of Edmonton and we are very hopeful that good things will spring forth as a result.
And a quick word of caution to you –
When you lock the door to the Sport Room at RG, please be sure the door is locked and not just closed.
If you see something amiss, something or someone not quite right, please email us and let us know. We will contact the Community League to take care of the matter. Please, never put yourself in a position that might be a risk to you.
