 Newsletter - October 16, 2018.

Hello Everyone,

Thank goodness that the weather has taken a turn for the better!

With the better weather, members are still playing on the outdoor courts and that is super. At the same time, we have entered the realm of finding indoor playing spaces for our members.  This has been both a challenge and a pleasure with the reward of  happy faces.

Still ahead of us is our AGM when we review our past year and also look ahead to plans for 2019.  This is an important event in the life cycle of our club. Please join us for this event.  Below is our Notice of Meeting.

EPC - Annual General Meeting Notice

In keeping with Section 4.2 of Edmonton Pickleball Club Bylaws, please be advised of the Edmonton Pickleball Club 2018 Annual General Meeting.

There will be two important resolutions that will be voted upon; one proposing an annual membership fee increase and a second covering proposed changes to the Bylaws.

In addition, the Board will report on the past years’ activities, review the 2018 audited financial statements and present the proposed 2019 budget for approval. Election of the Board Directors will also occur during this meeting.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Date: December 6th, 2018

Time: 7:00 to 8:00 PM

Location: Royal Gardens Community League Facility

Our recommendation that there be a membership fee increase for 2019 is not one that we have made lightly or without a great deal of consideration and deliberation. The recommendation comes as a result of our budget plans for 2019.  In our proposed 2019 budget, we have two significant expense items:

We would like to purchase a complete set of windscreens for our courts at Royal Gardens.  This is a costly item.  The windscreens we currently have are “borrowed” from other sources and with the help of Gorilla Tape in various colors, they have served us well.  However, entire sections are in tatters.

We would also like to again have the services of a Summer Student. I think you will agree that one of the reasons we had such a successful year was that we had a Summer Student with us for the entire summer.  This year, 8 weeks of Kareem’s time was covered, largely, by the Canada Summer Student Grant Program.  The cost of the remaining weeks was shared 50%-50% with Royal Gardens Community League.

Next year, we will, of course, again apply for a Canada Summer Student Grant and we will, of course, ask Royal Gardens Community League to again share the cost of the Summer Student.  However, in case neither comes through for us, we would still like to have a Summer Student for the entire summer and so we have budgeted for the cost of a Summer Student from 2019 EPC funds.  Just in case….

I know nobody likes a fee increase and we don’t either but we have budgeted for a fee increase in order to continue to provide members with the level of service our members have come to expect.

Give it some thought.  Feel free to ask me questions.
